In the middle of each year, we update our list of Recommended Funds to ensure that the recommendations remain relevant and current in lieu of latest market happenings. For 2012, our list of Recommended Funds has expanded with the introduction of 3 more categories: Sub Regional Equity - BRIC and Sub Regional Equity - EEMEA, key sub-sets of Global Emerging Markets which investors might wish to have more targeted exposure to. In addition, we have also added a Bonds - High Yield (US) category for investors who would like to seek fixed income opportunities from the country that possesses the world's deepest High Yield bond segments. With an expanded range of funds and categories, 2012's Recommended Funds List has grown to 46 funds, from 44 funds in 2011.

The fixed income portion of our Recommended Funds list 2012 is specially taken from WISE, an initiative which enables investors to invest in over 50 fixed income funds with a 0% sales charge. With the ability to begin earning a positive yield from Day 1, investors are now able to reap one of the many benefits of the fixed income asset class instantly.

In 2012, our Recommended Funds list witnesses an extremely high retention rate. With only 11 funds being replaced from the original 44 funds in the 2011 list, a large majority of last year's recommendations make yet another return to the list, a testament to the consistency of the performance of many of our Recommended Funds. (see Table 1).

With the huge array of funds available on the platform, our recommended list serves as a starting point for investors. The careful study of fund factsheets, product highlight sheets, prospectuses and semi-annual/annual reports are essential reading for investors who are determined to take a more active role in selecting funds for their portfolio. Choosing the right fund to invest in is only one part of the investment process; a suitable asset allocation and the desired exposure to individual markets are critical considerations for a successful investment.
